Loving Marimekko

I've been seeing all these brightly colored bold designs in home furnishings and am loving the look. I decided to share my research and findings with you.

According to Wikipedia "Marimekko is a Finnish company based in Helsinki that has made important contributions to fashion, especially in the 1960s and 1970s. They are particularly noted for brightly-colored printed fabrics and simple styles, used both in women's garments and in home furnishings."

Marimekko was first introduced to the U.S. by architect Benjamin Thompson in 1959. Jacqueline Kennedy wore eight different Marimekko dresses during the 1960 campaign and I'm sure each looked fabulous. No wonder it became such a hot look.

Crate and Barrel is now producing pieces using these patterns. Take a look.....
What a way to brighten a room!
