Yellow Home Decor

Hello Yellow!

I’m a huge fan of yellow tones; I love everything from a pale buttery yellow to a deep goldenrod. You’re probably thinking of flowers, lemons, warmth and that cheerful paint color you recently saw.

Did you know that a yellow ochre pigment was one of the first colors used in prehistoric cave art?

Not ready to devote entire walls to this color?
Opt for some great accessories like these....

It’s no wonder that when people think of this hue, they associate it with optimism and pleasure. Enjoy giving your room a punch of happiness and joy using this fun color!

Chevron

Chevron patterns are EVERYWHERE right now. While it's been around for centuries, you're sure to see that this pattern has exploded into every home decor or furniture store you visit.

This bold inverted "V" pattern can make quite the statement in your room. It's can be used in small amounts like decorative pillows or throws, but it's also seen in larger applications such as accent chairs. I especially love this pattern on window treatments.

I even saw this design painted on walls on the Lowe's website. How cute is this!!!! It's play and fun and totally unique.

Looking for other creative ideas? Keep reading!

Like I said before, if you're not sure of this pattern, start out with a cute toss pillow like this one from www.zazzle.com.
How about chevron towels? What a great way to accent a bathroom. These towels are also from www.zazzle.com.

A table runner is also a great way to give your dining table a pop of color, why not make it even better with a chevron pattern like this one. It's available on www.etsy.com from Modernality2.

Go ahead and give chevron a try!

Black and White

Black and white is a great combo for room decor, its one of my favorites. It can lean traditional or make the room look very modern. Black and white makes a bold statement and gives the room a fresh, clean look.

Adding an accent of color to a black and white room can create a really fabulous look. I like adding accents of one color to a room like yellow, red, turquoise and more. Really want to add a wow factor? Mix a collection of your favorite colors to the black and white combination. I like a yellow and grey combo, shades of blues and greens together look nice and also try adding primary colors to make a really fun room. Go bold with a solid wall of color or simply add a bold pop of color with a few throw pillows.
Try some looks like these:

Multiples

One trick I like to use when decorating a room is to use multiples of the same items. For example; a set of three matching vases or five matching frames on a wall.

Using several of the same item is the equivalent of one bold statement piece. I also do this with mirrors, throw pillows, candlesticks and so much more.

I think a collection of lanterns like this from Crate & Barrel looks lovely in an outdoor space. You can use all the same, however, I personally like using lanterns of different shapes and sizes for interest.
This collection of Gallery Frames from Pottery Barn is a great way to fit a variety of shapes and sizes of art and photos.

A collection of these Mercury Votive Holders placed in the center of your dining table would make for a relaxing, romantic dinner. These area also from West Elm.

Chalkboard Paint

Chalkboard Paint is a lot of fun, you can use it on an entire wall or just an accent piece.

Benjamin Moore has a great Chalkboard Paint that I've found works really well.
Here is a link to the Benjamin Moore site where they have a ton of great ideas.

Use chalkboard paint for easy labeling like this.

The newest thing in chalkboard paint is color. You can find several colors to add a kick to your decor.

Don't feel like doing it yourself? It's easy to find great accessories with chalkboard paint.

These great baskets with mini chalkboards are available at World Market.
I love these chalkboard vases available at the MoMA store.
These colorful planters with trays are available at Sears.
These chalkboard jars are available at Pier 1 Imports for $10 and $14.
