Chevron

Chevron patterns are EVERYWHERE right now. While it's been around for centuries, you're sure to see that this pattern has exploded into every home decor or furniture store you visit.

This bold inverted "V" pattern can make quite the statement in your room. It's can be used in small amounts like decorative pillows or throws, but it's also seen in larger applications such as accent chairs. I especially love this pattern on window treatments.

I even saw this design painted on walls on the Lowe's website. How cute is this!!!! It's play and fun and totally unique.

Like I said before, if you're not sure of this pattern, start out with a cute toss pillow like this one from www.zazzle.com.
How about chevron towels? What a great way to accent a bathroom. These towels are also from www.zazzle.com.

A table runner is also a great way to give your dining table a pop of color, why not make it even better with a chevron pattern like this one. It's available on www.etsy.com from Modernality2.

Herringbone

Herringbone is a pattern showing a v-shape or broken zig zag.  To create this look, the width of the tile needs to be twice that of the height.

Using this decorative pattern versus a standard square or rectangular pattern can create a stunning look.

This pattern looks amazing created with flooring tile or wood planks.

Herringbone also looks great on walls in a bathroom or as a decorative backsplash.

Not all tile can be laid in this pattern so be sure to discuss this look with your designer or flooring installer.

Are you a do-it-yourself gal? Here are some great instructions from eHow on how to correctly install tile in a herringbone pattern.
