Crisp White Home Interiors

Are you a fan of crisp white?
Sure, creamy soft tones are lovely but a bold, crisp white can create quite an impact in a room.

Add accent colors of soft, pale tones like aqua or buttery yellow. To create major contrast experiment with fun, bold hues such as navy or black.

Wood pieces, such as furniture and accessories look especially great next to crisp white.

White is such a great color, it basically goes with any scheme or style. You're sure to love walking into your crisp white room and enjoy the sunlight pouring in.

Fireplace

I have a personal project that I worked on over the weekend and I wanted to share a snapshot with you!  This is of our fireplace area, or lack there of!

When we moved into our home about a year and a half ago we loved almost everything about it especially the mill work in the living room.  There is a stunning mantle and trim work, however, there is not a fireplace below the mantle.  There was actually shelving in the space!  Needless to say, this had to go!  We considered adding a gas fireplace, however, in our previous home we had a fireplace that was NEVER used.

Instead, I designed a "faux fireplace".

What do you think?

Black Absolute granite tiles were used in addition to small decorative tiles in a variety of materials and textures. We still have yet to grout the small deco tiles and then add finishing trims. I then plan on placing candles of varying sizes and heights in front to create a cozy fireplace feel.

More pics to come once it's completed!

Black & White

Today I'm working on my home office. I HAVE to come up with a plan!

The walls are already painted a wonderful medium toned grey color. I am then going to design everything else in black and white. Black and white can be very dramatic and give an ordinary room a "wow" effect.

I've been browsing online for some inspiration. Check these out....

These area all gorgeous rooms!

I already have most of the furniture needed (which is fortunately already black). Next on the list is window treatments and lighting.

Stay tuned for photos!

Neutrals

I personally like to design rooms with color. I grew up in a house with white walls and white carpet and so of course I'm not going to be one of those designers who stick to all creams and whites. I love adding a punch of color to a room. However, it is important to add a few neutrals to a colorful room for balance. If you have too many different colors going on, the room won't flow well and you won't be comfortable in it. I find that neutrals give the room a grounding effect.

When selecting neutrals I like to play with texture and pattern. This will prevent the neutral item from becoming the boring, everyday piece in the room.

This Ratcliffe etagere/bookcase from Horchow is quite interesting and would be great to display your treasures.

Looking for a rug? This Flat Braided Jute rug from Pottery Barn has just enough interest.
This woven Subway White 18" pillow is from CB2.

These white Acton Vases from ZGallerie are anything but boring.

The nailhead trim on this ivory Jenelle sofa is stunning and available through Horchow.

Black and White

Black and white is a great combo for room decor, its one of my favorites. It can lean traditional or make the room look very modern. Black and white makes a bold statement and gives the room a fresh, clean look.

Adding an accent of color to a black and white room can create a really fabulous look. I like adding accents of one color to a room like yellow, red, turquoise and more. Really want to add a wow factor? Mix a collection of your favorite colors to the black and white combination. I like a yellow and grey combo, shades of blues and greens together look nice and also try adding primary colors to make a really fun room. Go bold with a solid wall of color or simply add a bold pop of color with a few throw pillows.
Try some looks like these:
