Color and Design Forecast

I recently attended a color and design forecast for 2011. It was very interesting and also inspiring! I thought I'd share a couple of the trends that were mentioned.

Flying Creatures - I've written about birds and owls being popular already but they're going to get even more popular. Basically any flying creature will be big. I like this trend, like I've said before....I'll be happy as long as monkeys don't come back.

Graffiti - I'm just starting to see this trend in stores. Basically the raw look of graffiti will be big in fabrics, art and more. This is fun and unique. I think it will be fun to add something like this to a more traditional room interior to add interest.

Vintage - Vintage is already a huge trend. It's great that people actually appreciate antiques. Just because its old doesn't mean it needs to be replaced. I love to think of the story behind some amazing pieces.

Now get creative and start thinking about some of these trends during your next home interior project.

Birds

I normally do not care for some trends that are cutsey. For example a couple years ago, monkeys were a big thing. You'd see monkey print fabric, monkey accessories.....monkeys everywhere. Then dragonflies were big. Birds seem to be the thing now and I actually like them. They're delicate and not cheesy at all. I keep finding myself drawn to accessories with a delicate bird perched on a branch.

Here are some pieces I've found.

This bird hook is available at World Market.

This cute plate also comes in green and red and is available at Pier 1.

This tray is a little more modern and a good choice if you're not sure about the whole bird trend. To purchase this tray visit MyDeco.com

I love this feminine piece! You can find it at Pottery Barn.

Scent Bug

I LOVE the Bath and Body Works Scent Bug!

I went in Bath and Body Works last week to take advantage of the hand soap sale and saw these cute little guys. You simply add a few drops of scented oil to a foam pad inside and turn it on. There is a small fan inside that runs on two AA batteries. You can't hear a thing though, its very quiet. Within minutes the fragrance has filled the room.

I'm a huge fan of any scented items (especially since we have a dog); but when its over 100 degrees out I simply can't light my oil burner or candles. Plus, you don't have to worry about fire like you do with a candle. I turn it on and leave the room and don't worry about it.

They also come in a ton of cute colors! Bath and Body Works also has over 40 different scented oils to choose from however you can use any you may already have.
