Basement Remodel

I seem to know so many people currently completing basement remodels. Some doing it themselves and others through contractors.

I saw this great image gallery on hgtv.com of BEFORE and AFTER pics of basement remodel projects. Thought I'd share!

Blue & Yellow Decor

I am currently working on a bedroom with different shades of blue from a pale greyish blue to medium toned blue to a deeper midnight blue. I need a pop of color so was looking through magazines and books for inspiration. I saw some photos of blue with yellow accents and LOVE the look! What a perfect combination.

If you're a fan of pale tones, pair your pale blue with a soft pale yellow. This creates a really pretty, delicate look.

Maybe you're more of a bold person. My favorite is a medium toned blue with accents of a golden yellow. Of course, with yellow and blue being complimentary colors, they're going to pop, but leaning to a bit gold really makes a statement.

All about the deep dark blue? Try for a deeper goldenrod tone. This will look very rich, traditional and elegant.

Now for my project, since I'm working with so many shades of blue, I am only going to use one tone of yellow; a medium bright yellow which will not only contrast well with the medium blue but also the pale and the deep blue.

I'll keep you posted on the outcome.

Happy Friday!

Glass Decor

If you want to add some glitz to your favorite room, try some colorful glass.

It's a great way to add some vibrant color. You can easily find nice pieces in high end stores as well as a local antique stores. Stick with one color for a bold impact. I especially like blue glass vases and bottles. Purple also looks nice. Prefer warm tones? Try amber, oranges and reds. Stick to one piece for a statement or collect bottles or vases of similar styles and display them together.

Here are some great pieces that I found online

These colorful hanging vases are so cute. Find them through Amazon.com.

This stunning Royal Doulton teal and blue vase can be found easily at Bed Bath & Beyond.

If you like warm tones, you'll love this decorative swirl vase. Find this at Amazon.com.
Make a statement with this amazing piece from Artful Home.

Find this Aqua Blue Sommerso vase at Sears. What a great gift for the holidays!

BLUE ROOMS

Blue is a great color to use in room interiors.

It's a calming and restful color and with so many different shades of blue you can create completely different looks. Try a soft baby blue for a bathroom or bedroom, a deep indigo looks great in dining rooms and sitting rooms or accent with navy for a dramatic look in bedrooms, sitting rooms and more.

Worried a blue room may be too much? Be sure to add equal amounts of light colors to keep the room from being too dark. I like using white with blue for a clean, crisp look. Yellow is blue's complementary color and always looks great; you can vary from pale yellow to a golden color depending on the blue. Other popular combination's are blue paired with brown (tan to chocolate) and grey (mostly silvery grey).

Not sure about blue? Start off with accessories like these:

These hand painted decorative balls are from Burke Decor. A set of six is $42.00.
This Lilly Pulitzer - Don't Be Koi Sateen bedding can be purchased through Garnet Hill.
This Trink Turk 20" square Ogee Pillow would make a great accent pillow. It ships for free from Amazon.com.
This blue terracotta frame is on sale for $18.36 at Pier 1 Imports.
