Carpeting

I have recently been working with several clients in need of new carpeting.  I thought I’d put together some information and advice to use when looking for carpeting for your home.

Mohawk

Before heading out to your favorite flooring store think of the following questions. This will help provide for an easier shopping experience.

  • What color am I looking for?
  • What type of texture or design am I looking for?
  • Is there a lot of traffic through this room?
  • What is the size of the room where this will be installed?

Fibers
Carpeting typically is made of the following fibers; wool, nylon, polypropylene, polyester and the new Triextra (SmartStrand)

Stain Resistance
No need to worry so much with pets and kiddos. Carpeting manufacturers understand the frustration of your little one spilling Kool-Aid all over your new carpet.  Gone are the days of a simple topical application of stain protection.  Now you can find carpeting that has the stain guard throughout each fiber!

Texture/Softness
Do you prefer a clean, loop look? Does the plusher look of cut pile appeal to you? Perhaps you’ll go for a combination of the two to create a pattern. I’ve always been a fan of the frize carpet which has a longer fiber and more twists. In my experience, it gives even the gloomiest of basements a cozy feeling.

One product in particular has me excited and I’ve been specifying quite a bit of it for my clients.  Smart Strand is a new carpeting from Mohawk that is made of the new Triextra fiber.  First of all, every client has LOVED the feel.  Additionally, the stain resistance is amazing and it’s also environmentally friendly and actually made partially from corn!  Hmmm.. .Maybe that’s why this Iowa girl likes this product! :)  If you’re interested in finding out more about this carpeting, visit your local flooring store or click here

I hope this has helped ease your stress on finding carpet for your home! Do you have more questions? Let me know!
