Working on home interiors is my passion, however, I recently
had the opportunity to try my hand at a home exterior. My personal home exterior actually!
we moved into this lovely home in a great neighborhood. The inside is perfect, it's been updated to meet our needs but retains the character of an older home. The yard is also nice, it's rather large
and has great potential. Unfortunately, the home exterior needed a lot of TLC. The old aluminum siding was very worn and even dented and missing in a few areas, while the front overhang seemed to
really date the house. Finally, we were not fans of the green shutters and green
front door. We were looking for striking colors to give it more interest. We knew we could do better!
Here is a snapshot of the house before we started the update. Sorry for the poor quality, I literally snapped this just before they started the removal!
What sparked this exterior change is our need for a new
roof. We began by selecting a darker charcoal shingle. Siding was needed so I selected a soft
grey and during the re-siding, we made the choice to remove the front overhang. I
have to admit that I was a little nervous about this part. Finally, we had the
shutters and doors painted a bold black color. The black contrast against the grey siding
looks wonderful. For finishing touches we added black wrought iron lanterns to both sides of the door, a
decorative trim around the door in white and I just purchased some large black
planters for flowers in the summer.
Here is a couple snapshots of the house after most of the updating
was completed.
Once my flowers are all planted and we landscape the front yard
I’ll post some more pics.
